Update.. Update.. Update!!

As we are now less than 4 weeks away from arriving in Cabo, it’s a good time for some updates to help you prepare for your trip.

While we realize the thought of having so much fun once again in Cabo may tempt you to tell other people about it, Villa Buena Vida is invite-only. So unless we have personally extended an invitation to them, no one else will be welcomed to party at the house. That even goes for people we know, but especially those we’ve never met. Our plan was to limit the group to the friends who made the first trip along with some new friends that Michael felt would be good additions to the festivities. So if you have friends who want to make the trip, we certainly can’t stop them from traveling to Cabo, but just remember that Villa Buena Vida is invite-only.

House Meals

We will have breakfast and dinner freshly prepared and served at the house Monday-Thursday. The cost will be $35/person each day. The house will also be pre-stocked with snacks and other goodies, which, coupled with the usual leftovers, should tide us over from breakfast to dinner. However, if people get the munchies during the day, there are endless restaurants just a short cab ride away as well as delivery options. And remember, we will have lunch provided for us on Tuesday during our boat excursion.

Snorkeling Tour

Speaking of the boat, we will leave the house (after breakfast) around 9:30am Tuesday to embark on our 3-hour cruise and snorkeling tour. The cost will be $100/person, which covers all the necessary snorkeling gear, food, drinks, transportation, and tips. The snorkeling is totally optional. Even if you don’t want to get in the water, the cruise promises to provide some amazing views of the Sea of Cortez. As of right now, 14 people have signed up for the cruise, but we have room for more if anyone changes their mind between now and then.

A foursome has been reserved at the Cabo San Lucas Country Club on Wednesday morning. We will depart the house around 9:15am for our 10:00 tee time. The cost for the 9 holes of golf and rental clubs will be $100/person.

As promised, we will have a masseuse (or two) on hand to provide massages Monday afternoon. The prices for a basic Swedish massage range from $70 for 60 minutes to $90 for 80 minutes. They also offer different types of massages for additional prices. If interested, you can work that out with the masseuse at the time of your massage. So, if you are interested, please let Crystal know ASAP so she can compile a schedule, which will be determined by how many people make a request.

Please keep in mind to have some cash on hand to tip the staff at the end of our stay. After discussions with the homeowner, we believe that a tip of $25/person for the week would suffice. For those of you staying at other locations, any tips for the chef would be up to your discretion.

Pictures/Social Media

This will likely go without saying, but just consider it a friendly reminder. Please don’t take pictures of anyone without their consent and be mindful of the background when taking pictures with others. Also, please do not post any pictures on social media that include other people without their consent. We would also ask that you not tag the specific location of the house when you do post something to social media. Away from the house, feel free to tag away, but while at the house, let’s keep our location as private as possible.

Gifts Are Not Necessary

For those of you thinking about getting Michael a gift for his birthday, it’s totally not necessary. All of you making the trip is an awesome gift by itself. However, it’s likely that some of you will still want to get him a gift anyway. If that is the case, feel free to send it to our home address either before or after the trip.

What To Bring

Besides the usual stuff you would bring to a beach vacation (sunglasses, bathing suits, sunscreen), everything else should be provided for us, including towels for the pool. If you want to bring some games to help pass the time, feel free. Left-Center-Right will be making a return trip to Cabo (don’t forget your dollar bills) as will a homemade drinking game version of Corn Hole. It might be a good idea to bring some type of no-spill tumbler for drinking out by the pool. Not only do they keep your cocktails colder longer, they also cut down on the number of cups we would need to buy. We would also encourage people to make some playlists of your favorite music to enjoy throughout the day.

Who's Up For Some Golf?

Most of you know that Stuart Scott and I were very close, and two of things we bonded over instantly were golf and our birthdays. He loved to play almost as much as me, and our birthdays fell on consecutive days. July 19th for Stuart and July 20th, of course, for me.

So with that in mind, Kristin came up with the cool idea of playing some golf on Stuart's birthday in Cabo. The plan would be to play 9 holes on Wednesday morning around 9:30. The 9-hole rate at Cabo San Lucas Country Club is $75, and the cost for a set of rental clubs is $30. The course is about a 25-minute drive from the house.

If you are interested in playing, please leave your name in the comments section below. Also, let me know if you will need rental clubs or if you plan to bring your own. I'm probably going to rent them at the course, instead of lugging my full bag all the way to Cabo just to play 9 holes.

Important Check-In and Check-Out Info

Unfortunately, we will not be able to check-in to the house until 3pm Sunday because there's another party checking out that same day. So, if you haven't already made your flight arrangements, please keep this information in mind when you do.

As far as checking out goes on that Friday, we will have to be out of the house by 11am because another party is checking in later that day.

So, again, we won't be able to check-in to the house until Sunday at 3pm, and everyone must be gone by 11am Friday.

Sign-ups For Snorkeling Tour Begin NOW!!

As we mentioned earlier, we have planned a snorkeling tour for the Tuesday of our Cabo trip. For a better idea of what to expect, check out the video. The making of the guacamole in slow motion is pretty mesmerizing! 😃

This is a completely optional excursion for everyone, but it will definitely be lots of fun, even if you don't want to get in the water.  The boat features several areas for just lying out in the sun and enjoying the views.

The tour starts at 10am and goes until 1pm. We will have breakfast at the house before departing for the marina, and we will be served lunch on the catamaran during the tour.

We will need a head count prior to departure, so please make your reservations NOW by adding your name in the comments section of this post. You can also e-mail us. It's booked right now for 15 people, but we can increase it if needed. So the sooner you reserve your spot, the better. The price will be about $100/person (including tip), and it covers EVERYTHING-- from food and drinks (yes, alcohol too) to transportation and snorkel gear.

Are You Ready?

It's just about that time again!!

It was so much fun celebrating Michael's 40th birthday in Cabo San Lucas back in 2012, and we are so happy you will be joining us for the 5th anniversary!

As the countdown to our trip continues to slowly click away, this website will serve as information central for all things relative to our trip. So please check back often for updates and feel free to leave comments on any of the posts. If you want to be alerted when new information is added, utilize the "Follow by Email" function on the right side of the screen. But please DO NOT share this website with anyone who's not a part of our group.

To help with your early preparation, we've compiled a quick help guide:

Where are we staying?

Once again, we will be staying at the beautiful Casa Buena Vida in Pedregal, located just a quick cab ride from the Cabo San Lucas Marina. This 10,000 sq/ft villa will serve as party central as most of our meals and activities take place here. And just like last time, the house comes with a full cleaning and kitchen staff.

If you do not have a room booked at the house, we suggest you find a cheap to moderate hotel in Cabo San Lucas. Since you will be spending most of your time with us at the house, there's really no need to splurge on a resort (unless you just want to). Also, any hotel in San Lucas is a short cab ride to the house in Pedregal.

What are the dates?

We are scheduled to check-in to the villa on Sunday, July 16th after 3pm and check-out on Friday, July 21st by 11am. Those times could slide in our favor if there is not another party checking out the day we arrive or checking in the day we leave. Please keep these check-in and check-out times in mind when you are booking your flights! For those staying in the villa, there's one other very important date to remember: May 19th. That is when your final payment is due.

How are we getting to/from the airport?

Victor's Cabo (whom we used in 2012) is offering us a group discount for our trip. When you contact him to schedule your round-trip transfers, make sure you mention "Michael Eaves" to receive the discount. Depending on whether an SUV or van is needed the cost would be $65-80 each way. The cost, of course, could be split if multiple people arrive around the same time and coordinate their transfers to the villa or hotel. We will eventually post a page where people can list their flight arrival and departure information.

What's the food situation?

We are planning to have breakfast and dinner prepared at the house each day of our stay, with each person being responsible for a reasonable daily fee to cover the purchase of groceries. We are not having lunch scheduled because last time we just ended up eating the breakfast leftovers and snacks during the day to tide us over to dinner. Plus, we have a boat excursion scheduled one day that will provide lunch for us (more on that down the page). Also, if you have any food allergies and/or restrictions, please let us know well in advance so the kitchen staff can be prepared.

What do we need to bring?

Other than the typical things you would bring for a vacation in the sun, we are also asking that you bring the following items:
  • Cash: This will be used to pay for the daily groceries, tips for the staff, and, of course, for Left-Center-Right (for those not familiar, it's the most competitive game you can play where absolutely zero skill is required)! Smaller bills would be preferable, including several $1 bills for LCR! In the coming weeks, we will have a better idea on a suggested total amount.
  • Favorite liquor/wine: To help supplement what we will already have pre-stocked in the house, we are asking every person to bring a bottle or two of their favorite alcoholic drink. You can either pick something up at the duty free shop or stop at Wal-Mart on the way from the airport (one 30-minute stop is included in your transfer with Victor's Cabo).

What will we be doing?

Our motto for this trip is once again, "You can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning." So expect a very festive party atmosphere throughout our stay in Cabo. In addition to spending most of our time hanging out at the pool, we are also planning for the following activities:
  • Monday: In-house tequila tasting and massages. The tasting is free, but you will also have the option to buy bottles to take home with you or consume during our stay. There will be a fee for the massages. We will get that information to everyone over the next several weeks.
  • Tuesday: 3-hour private boat excursion on a 32-foot catamaran. During our afternoon cruise, guests will have the option of jumping in the water to do a little snorkeling or just hanging out on the catamaran to enjoy the sun and music. We will need a minimum of 15 people to reserve the 10am-1pm excursion at a price of $100/person (tip included). The price covers all the necessary gear (snorkels, masks, fins and life vests), a lunch consisting of fajitas, chips, guacamole and salsa and an open bar featuring bottled water, soda, juice, beer, wine and assorted liquor including margaritas.
  • Wednesday: 9-hole golf outing at Cabo San Lucas CC. Total cost for green fees and rental clubs will be $100.
The rest of the week is wide-open for everyone to do whatever the hell they want or don't want. It's your vacation as much as it is Michael's birthday, so fill it however you choose!
